Muzika, František (Czech painter and printmaker, 1900-1974)

Note: Muzika began his career as a painter but worked in a variety of media and contexts. He produced 107 stage stage designs in the period 1927-1947, while simultaneously working at the Prague publishing house Aventinum as a book designer, typographer, illustrator, and critic. He taught at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague from 1945-1970, serving as head of the School of Book Design, Poster Art and Calligraphy. His early works were influenced by cubism and the Neue Sachlichkeit. After the second World War, he practiced a lyrical version of surrealism, his later works exhibiting biological and elemental forms.
