Kolig, Anton (Austrian painter, 1886-1950)

Note: Studied in Vienna at the Kunstgewerbeschule from 1904 to 1906 and at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste from 1907 to 1912. In 1911 his work attracted the interest of Klimt and Carl Moll, who arranged a travel scholarship to France for him, but he returned to Austria at the outbreak of WWI. The male nude is central to his work, and appears in the context of allegorigal studies. He produced large-scale frescos. Some of his work was destroyed by the Nazis, though he was able to retain a teaching position from 1928-1943.
