Gris, Juan (Spanish painter, sculptor, and illustrator, 1887-1927, active in France)

Note: Gris specialized in mathematics, physics and engineering at the Escuela de Artes y Manufacturas in Madrid before studying painting and moving to Paris. He was active as an artist primarily in France. He is remembered as one of the leading Cubist painters. He had an independent and distinctive approach to Cubism that was influential to later practitioners and theoreticians.
