Elwell, Frederick W. (British painter, 1870-after 1909)
|
Note: In 1887 Elwell recieved a grant that allowed him to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Anvers for four years. Following this, he lived in Paris where he frequented the Academy Julian. From 1894 to 1909 he showed in the Salon des Artistes Français. He returned to London and Beverley in 1903. He became a member of the Royal Academy in 1938, and made genre paintings, landscapes, and still lifes. He also painted portraits, and joined the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. His work hangs in the Tate Gallery, London. |
