Andreoli, Giorgio (Italian potter and workshop director, ca. 1465/1470-1555)

Note: Andreoli settled in Gubbio ca. 1490-1492 where he became head of a maiolica workshop with his brothers Salimbene and Giovanni. Andreoli specialized in lustre, notably a rich ruby red lustre and a golden lustre, and it is to his credit that Gubbio became renowned for its ceramics. Works bearing his mark date from 1518 onwards. The majority of his plates are decorated with trophies and grotesques but istoriato wares were also made. His sons Vincenzo and Ubaldo took over the business in 1536. Born in Intra near Lake Maggiore, Italy.
