Novotný, Otakar (Czech architect, 1880-1959)

Note: Czech architect was an important representative of functionalism. He was a student of Kotěra's at the Prague School of Decorative Arts, graduating in 1903, after which he worked in Kotěra's studio. He was a member of the Mánes Association of Plastic Artists from 1902, and served as chairman twice. He acted as professor at the Prague School of Decorative Arts from 1929 to 1954, and wrote theoretical essays, and a monograph on Kotěra. Important projects include the Štenc house and publishing offices in Prague, the exhibition halls for the Association of Czech Accomplishment at the German Werkbund exhibition in Cologne, and his design for the Mánes Association building (1927-1930), which is considered his best.
