Gloeden, Wilhelm, Baron von (German photographer, 1856-1931)
|
Note: Von Gloeden is known for his Homeric-idyllic images of local Italian youths posed as classical figures. He used landscapes, seashore, and ancient sites to create a total vision of this lifestyle. His prominence lasted until World War I, at which time he left Italy. The fascists destroyed his images and glass negatives as obscene and it was not until the late 1960s that his work was rediscovered. |
