Delmaet & Durandelle (French photography studio, ca. 1862-1890)
|
Note: Ca. 1862, Hyacinthe César Delmaet and Louis-Emile Durandelle opened a photographic studio at 30-32 chaussée de Clignancourt, Paris, called "Delmaet & Durandelle". In 1862, Delmaet died and the firm continued when his widow, Clémence Jacob Delmaet joined Durandelle in running the firm. Clémence, who later married Durandelle, probably dealt with the management aspects of the firm. In 1865, the firm was commissioned to photograph the construction of the Paris Opéra, resulting in two volumes of 97 photographs. In 1868, the firm photographed the rebuilding of the Hôtel-Dieu, Paris. At this time the business relocated to Montmartre. From 1870 to 1871, the firm photographed the Paris Commune. From 1876 to 1880, Delmaet & Durandelle documented the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris. From 1877 to 1890, the firm documented construction of the church of Sacre-Coeur, Paris. From 1882 to 1884, Delmaet & Durandelle photographed archaeological excavations at the Louvre, Paris. From 1887 to 1889, the firm produced images of the construction of the Eiffel Tower. In 1890, upon the death of Clémence Jacob, Durandelle sold the business and archives to his assistant Paul-Joseph-Albert Chevojon. |
