Neto, Ernesto (Brazilian installation artist and sculptor, born 1964)
|
Note: Brazlian artist whose room-sized sculptural installations engage the themes of body, space, and landscape. His work is often characterized by bulbous, organic forms constructed of translucent fabric that can be approached, moved around, or entered by the visitor. Occasionally, his architectural/corporeal forms contain different aromatic spices and he sometimes lets the substances leak out of the weave of the fabric, creating colorful abstract patterns on the floor. Neto seeks and believes in the transformative power of art. Neto cites the influences of sculptor Alexander Calder, conceptual artist Lygia Clark, modern ballet, landscape design, and Stanley Kubrick's film "2001: A Space Odyssey." |
