Schmidt, Hans (Swiss architect, urban planner, and theorist, 1893-1972)
|
Note: Schmidt attended the University of Geneva during the summer of 1912 and studied architecture at the Königlich Bayerischen Technischen Hochschule in Munich from 1913-1917. He continued his studies at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich where he received his diploma in architecture in 1918. In 1924, Schmidt established his own architectural firm in Basel, and in either 1925 or 1926 he formed the partnership Artaria & Schmidt Architekten (Basel, Switzerland) which remained active until either 1930 or 1934. According to Suter, Artaria & Schmidt Architekten assisted the Zurich workers collective on the Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl (Zurich, Switzerland) from 1928 to 1932. According to Marbach and Rüegg, Schmidt worked on the site plan for Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl with Paul Artaria, Rudolf Steiger and Werner Max Moser. From 1928 to 1929 he designed the Typ D Reihenhauswohnung (Type D row house); worked with Artaria on the designs for Typ B Reihenhauswohnung (Type B row house) and Typ C Reihenhauswohnung (Type C row houses); and assisted Max Ernst Haefeli and Moser with the window and door designs for unspecified buildings of the Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl. Swiss architect. |
