Fizeau, Hippolyte Louis (French photographer, 1819-1896)
|
Note: Born 23 September 1891; died 18 September 1896. From 1839 to 1846, Fizeau collaborated with Léon Foucault (1819-1868) to improve the daguerreotype process by attempting to determine the speed of light. Fizeau also created a photoengraving technique directly form the daguereeotype. In 1840, Fizeau collaborated with Alfred Donné (1801-1878) in the production of daguerreotype microphotographs. In 1842, some etched plates from Fizeau's daguerreotypes appeared in Lerebours's book "Excursions daguerriennes". In 1845, Fizeau and Foucault produced the first daguerreotype of the sun. In 1863, Fizeau took up the post of Superintendant of Physics at the École Polytechnique in Paris. |
