Record Type: Corporate Body
Beatles (English musical group, active 1960-1970)

Note: Influential British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960, whose members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Their music was integral to the so-called “British Invasio,” in rock music and to the development of 1960s counterculture. Originally influenced by 1950s rock 'n' roll, skiffle, and "beat music,' their sound evolved from traditional pop music styles to later include folk, Indian music, psychedelia, and hard rock. The Beatles were considered pioneers in several fields: sound mixing and recording, merchandising, and the creation of the “rock star” ethos.
