Mary II, Queen of England (English queen, 1662-1694)

Note: Eldest daughter of James, Duke of York (the future James II and VII), and his first wife, Anne Hyde. Although her father and mother were converts to Roman Catholicism, Mary was brought up a Protestant. In November 1677 she was married to her cousin William of Orange, stadholder of Holland and champion of Protestantism in Europe. She was queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland as joint ruler with her husband.
