Ford, Charles Henri (American poet, artist, and editor, 1908/1913-2002)

Note: Poet and multimedia artist, Ford started his first magazine, Blues, at 16. He subsequently became acquainted with and published the work of many avant-garde writers and artists, including Gertrude Stein, Man Ray, and Marcel Duchamp. In 1933 Ford and Parker Tyler co-authored the novel The Young and Evil. In 1940, Ford and Tyler collaborated on the magazine View, which published the work of surrealist artists. Contributors to View included Ford's companion Pavel Tchelitchew, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst, Pablo Picasso, Henry Miller, Paul Klee, Georgia O'Keefe, Man Ray, Joan Miro, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Jean Genet, Rene Magritte, Jean Dubuffet, and Edouard Roditi. He is credited to introducing Andy Warhol to underground filmmaking, and to Warhol's assistant in the 1960s, Gerard Malanga. Ford continued to produce work until his death in 2002.
