Neizvestny, Ernst (Russian sculptor, 1925-2016)

Note: He fought in World War II, becoming a decorated soldier, and went on to study art in Moscow and Riga. At a 1962 exhibition Nikita Khruschev criticized Neizvestny’s sculptures, accusing the artist of wasting metal needed for national industry. Despite this, Neizvestny later designed Kruschev's tombstone. The artist left the Soviet Union in 1976, eventually settling in the United States.
