Cavellini, Guglielmo Achille (Italian painter, conceptual artist, and collector, 1914-1990)
|
Note: Cavellini was a wealthy Italian art collector who invented the art of "autostoricizzazione" or self-historification. He staged live events, used advertising strategies, inserted fiction into real events, and devised publicity stunts. “Guglielmo Achille Cavellini, 1914-2014” was an imaginary exhibition created to celebrate his centennial. He created stickers for this event, which he would affix in public places, and that he distributed through the mail art network. He authored books, and did work in a variety of media that bridge postwar Italian art and American Pop, in addition to being a serious collector of contemporary art. |
