Bodoni, Giambattista (Italian typographer, printer, publisher, 1740-1813)
|
Note: Bodoni was born into a family of typographers, and first worked as typesetter in the Vatican's Propaganda Fide, then Stamperia Reale for the Duke of Parma. He opened his own type foundry in 1770. In 1782 Charles III of Spain appointed Bodoni court typographer. In 1818, Bodoni's widow published a two-volume "Manuale tipografico," a collection of his life's work. He is considered an innovator in 18th century type design. |
