Lombardo family (Italian architects, sculptors, and metalworkers, active 15th-16th centuries)
|
Note: Italian family of artists who were dominant figures in Venetian sculpture and architecture from ca. 1465 to 1532. Pietro was born in Carona, the place of origin of the Solari family, a famous family of stone carvers, and therefore it was assumed he was a member. Their style is typified by simple, planar architecture covered with low-relief ornament, so widely imitated that the term Lombardesque was coined to characterize the phenomenon by the late 15th and early 16th centuries. |
