De Albertis, Sebastiano (Italian painter, 1828-1897)
|
Note: He left his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, to join the uprising against Austrian rule (1848). He fought with Garibaldi's campaigns in 1859, 1860, and 1866. His battle experiences caused him to turn away from history painting, and toward more contemporary subjects. He made many studies of horses for his paintings and watercolors of military life. Early in his career he worked as a caricaturist for the newspaper Spirito Folletto, mainly ca. 1850-1860. |
