Stannard, Emily, I (English painter, 1803-1885)

Note: Emily was the daughter of Daniel Coppin (ca. 1770-1822), a patron of her future husband, Joseph Stannard. She is famed for her studies of flowers and still lives inspired by Dutch works. She studied in Norwich and Holland and she exhibited in London under her maiden name. The Society of Arts (London) presented Emily with a gold medal in 1820 and 1821. After her husband's death she maintained her living as a teacher. Comment on works: Still life; History; Flowers
