Richardson, George (English architect, printmaker, and writer, ca. 1736-1813)

Note: The birth and death dates of George Richardson are debated; he was probably born in Edinburgh. He worked as a draftsman for the Adams Brothers early in his career and from 1760-1763 he travelled with James Adams to the south of France, Italy, Istria, and Dalmatia studying remains of ancient architecture and painting. He documented contemporary English architecture in an innovative aquatint technique in the "New Vitruvius Britannicus" (from 1802 to 1808). Richardson also specialized in decorating apartments in the antique style. Scottish architect, author (Colvin).
