Meit, Conrat (German sculptor, ca. 1480-ca. 1550, active in the Netherlands)
|
Note: Meit worked for Margaret of Austria, Regent of the Netherlands, in Mechelen from about 1514 until Margaret's death in 1530. Meit's important surviving documented works for Margaret are the effigies of Philibert of Savoy, his mother Margaret of Bourbon and of Margaret herself for their tombs in the church of St. Nicholas of Tolentino in Brou. From 1534 until the the time of his death, Meit worked and lived in Antwerp, where he became a member of the guild of St. Luke as a wood-carver in 1536. |
