Note: Short-lived city of upper Egypt; capital of King Akhenaton. It was built ca. 1375 BCE, but abandoned soon after when court was forced to return to Thebes. It is one of few ancient cities in Egypt to be systematically excavated; 400 cuneiform tablets were found here in 1887.
