Note: The county of Wexford in the southeastern Irish province of Leinster consists of lowlands and glacial moraines, and borders the Irish Sea on the south and east. Once inhabited by Danes. Anglo-Normans landed in 1169. It was dominated by the MacMurrough Kavanagh clan in the 16th century, and the British leader Oliver Cromwell's forces invaded in 1649. Over three-fifths of the population live on the land, and farming is the main economic activity, principally of cattle and cereal crops such as wheat. The 2003 estimated population was 118,700.
