Note: Near Czech border; became a market town in 14th cen. & an independent "free royal town" in 1372; viticulture important; King Béla II of Hungary born here in 1131; once part of Hungary & Czechoslovakia; numerous notable buildings, for instance, the Roman Rotunda of St. George, probably built in the 12th cen. as a small church near the fortress; it is the symbol of the town.
