Hierarchy of Caspian Gates (pass)  Caspian Gates (pass)

Note: Mountain pass and historic trade route. The pass was on the path of Alexander the Great's route, and was historically considered the boundary between ancient Media, and the Iranian satrapies of Hyrcania, Bactria, and Parthia. Has been identified as a narrow pass on the west shore of the Caspian Sea near Derbent. However, other sources state the Gates are located in northern Iran.
