Note: Archaeological site and ancient city, almost completely ruined. The city played an important role in the Indian Ocean trade and was visited by Marco Polo in the 8th century and by Ibn Battutah in the 14th century before being captured by the Portuguese fleet in 1507. The triangular ruins of the city stretch over more than 60 acres of land. This location is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
