Hierarchy of Hamad Town Tumuli Moundfield (ancient site)  Hamad Town Tumuli Moundfield (ancient site)

Note: Ancient burial site consisting of tumuli, which are mounds of earth and pieces of limestone bounded by circular walls and covering rectangular limestone burial chambers. Not all tombs are occupied, but there is evidence that men, women, and children received the same type of burial. Bodies were left uncovered and lying on their sides. Burial chambers also contain evidence of ritual funeral offerings which appear to have included furniture, jewelry, and food. Some of these objects were imported, supporting the idea that the people of Dilmun communicated with the inhabitants of areas such as Mesopotamia, Iran, the Oman peninsula and the Indus Valley. This site is located between the village of Buri and the town of Ar Rifa'a al Gharbiis. It is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
