Note: The city of Dobrich is located in the fertile Dobruja region in northwestern Bulgaria. It was under Turkish rule from the 15th century until 1878. From 1913 until 1940, it belonged to Romania, then was occupied by Germany until 1944 when the Soviet Union liberated it. Its economic activities are largely agricultural, including flour milling, baking, ensilage, and vegetable oil extraction. It also produces textiles, furniture, and machine parts. Its 2003 estimated population was 99,700.
