Hierarchy of Tell Halula (archaeological site)  Tell Halula (archaeological site)

Note: This site, near the village of Halula, is home to twenty recently discovered painted silhouettes of women which date to approximately 6500 BCE, making them the oldest representations of humans in the Middle East. The paintings emphasized both ritual dance and fertility, and were painted on the floor of a structure. A future dam project will cover the site with floodwaters.
