Note: Resevoir created by the controversial Three Gorges Dam, erected on the Yangtze River in the Hubei province. Although the dam was approved in 1989, resettlement of the population and building of the dam started some years later, due to economic and political conditions. The resevoir is approximately 375 miles long and has submerged approximately 1,200 archaeological sites along the Yangtze, from the Hubei province into the Chongqing municipality.
