It was initially established in 1836, pursuant to a federal treaty recognizing LTBB hunting, fishing, and gathering rights on ceeded territories in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula. A subsequent treaty signed in 1855 expanded the reservation to 336 square miles of land. Presently, the LTBB owns scattered parcels of land throughout the historic reservation boundaries. |
