Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Hannahville Potawatomi of the Hannahville Indian Community. The reservation spans over 4,000 acres in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is located in what are now called Menominee and Delta Counties, Michigan. The reservation was first founded in its current location in 1884 by Methodist missionary Peter Marksman under the name Hannahville Indian Mission. It was founded under its current name in 1913, when Congress purchased 3,400 acres of land in scattered parcels for the Hannahville Potawatomi people. After being granted federal recognition in 1936, the Hannahville Potawatomi acquired additional land in 1942. |
