Note: Name of present-day Eritrea sometime after the 14th century. The kingdom included the territory north of the Mareb River out to the Red Sea at Massawa; its capital was at Debarwa. Identified as a vassal state by rulers of both Tigrai and Abyssinia, in the 18th century the kingdom often at war with the latter.
