Note: Former state which rose to power in the 8th century BCE in South China. The Ch'u state moved northward, conquering most of what is now Henan province. For over 400 years, Ch'u was a major contender for control of the entirety of China, until it was eliminated in 223 BCE, when the Qin state gained control.
