Note: Area in northeastern Africa, extending from the Nile River valley in Egypt eastward to the Red Sea, and southward to Khartoum, Sudan. Nubia was subordinate to Egypt from the 20th to the 8th centuries BCE. The Nubian kingdom of Kush dominated the area from the 8th-7th centuries BCE, then it ruled by Assyria, Ethiopia and Nobatae tribes. Much of the area was flooded with construction of Aswan High Dam in the 1960s.
