Note: Located east of the Black Sea, south of the Caucasus Mountains, and southwest of Tbilisi on a promontory isolated by steep cliffs and water on three sides. Site of 1.75 million year old hominin skulls; may have been one of the first human ancestors to leave Africa. Most recently was a medieval village; the foundations of buildings remain.
