Note: Located on the Linth River. Established as a Roman settlement ca. 15 BCE. The Alemanni settled here from ca. 500 CE. In the 6th century, Irish monk, Fridolin, converted the district to Christianity. Became a member of the Swiss Confederation in 1352, and its inhabitants defeated the Hapsburg army at the Battle of Näfels in 1388. |
