Note: Thw town of Cloyne in County Cork in the Irish province of Munster has been settled since the 6th century or earlier. It was taken by Norse Vikings in 823, and in succeeding times was often destroyed by warring factions. It is known for its 14th century cathedral. The famous Irish philosopher George Berkeley was bishop of Cloyne from1734 to 1753.
