Note: The town of Travnik is located on the Lasva River northwest of Sarajevo in Bosnia I Hercegovina. It was founded in the 15th century and was capitol of Bosnia under the Turks. It is noted for Roman ruins and a Turkish citadel built there when the Ottoman Empire was in control of the area. It was severely damaged by fire in 1903. Its suburb of Novi Travnik, some 10 km. from the middle of the town proper, is an industrial center. Its monuments include the Many-colored Mosque and the Ivo Andric House, home of the Nobel laureate novelist. It is a center for winter sports and is well known for its sheep's cheese. The 2004 estimated population was 27,400.
