Note: Enniscorthy is a small urban district located on the River Slaney in County Wexford in southeastern Ireland. In May 1798, a major popular uprising arose in County Wexford that was defeated near Enniscorthy. The town 's architecture features the castle of Wexford, built in 1176 by the Anglo-Normans, and somewhat altered over the centuries. Another notable building is the Roman Catholic St. Aidan's Cathedral, designed by one of the Pugin family of British architects. The 2003 estimated population was 8700. |
