Note: Toqua was a former Cherokee town, part of the Overhill towns region. Toqua acted as a major Cherokee city in the early 1700s, being eclipsed by Great Tellico in the mid-1700s. It is also the site of Tali, a town visited by Hernando de Soto during his expedition in 1540. The site is now inundated by Tellico Lake.
