Note: Village located near The Wash on the North Norfolk coast, about 1 mile from the sea and 4 miles from Hunstanton. It is likely that it was a trading port for the Romans; the end of the Roman Peddar's Way is here. An archaeological site NE of the village consists of the remains of an oval (possibly religious) structure consisting of 54 posts with a large oak stump in the middle with its roots pointing skywards. The site, popularly known as "Seahenge" was discovered in 1998 and is dated to the early Bronze Age by an axe found nearby. There is also a 600 acre nature reserve and bird observatory run by the Norfolk Naturalists Trust here. |
