Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe.The reservation spans approximately 30,000 acres of land on the shores of Lake Havasu in San Bernadino County, California. After the Federal government declared Chemehuevi's ancestral lands to be public domain in 1853, most Chemehuevis were forcibly relocated to the Colorado River Reservation in Arizona. In 1885, however, a few hundred Chemehuevi people returned to California's Chemehuevi Valley. In 1907, the Federal government reinstated a portion of the Chemehuevi's California homelands by establishing the Chemehuevi Reservation. While the Tribe was again disenfranchised from their land to make way for the Parker Dam Project, their Reservation was formally re-established by an Executive Order on June 5, 1970 after more than 30 years of persistence in pursuit of federal recognition.
