Note: Usti nad Labem is the city of the region of Severočeský in northwest Czech Republic, situated on the west bank of the Elbe River where it meets the Bilona River. Founded in the 10th century, the town was a noted medieval center. However, most of its development dates from the 19th century when it expanded to become a true city. It was heavily damaged during World War II and has been extensively reconstructed. Its remaining historical structures include churches from medieval and Renaissance times and the medieval Strekov castle. Today its industries include food processing, textiles, and chemical manufacturing. Its 2003 estimated population was 96,200. |
