Note: Mexica altepetl or city-state that was located on an island in Lake Texcoco, in the Valley of Mexico. It was founded ca. 1325; was the capital of the Triple Alliance of the 15th century. Captured by Spanish forces in 1521. Its ruins are situated in what is now the neighborhood of Tacuba in Mexico City.
