Note: Bretagne is a historic region originally occupied by Bretons, Celtic people who were refugees from Anglo-Saxon invasions of the island of Britain in the 5th and 6th centuries. It had coastline along the English Channel to the north and the Bay of Biscay to the southwest. It was established as a duchy in the 10th century that went unrecognized by France until 1213. It became a possession of the French crown in the 1490s and was incorporated into France into 1532. |
