Note: Republic that existed briefly in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1797 as a sister republic, and it comprised the conquered city of Genoa and its environs. In 1803, it became a military district. It was absorbed into the French empire in 1805.
