Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, one of 6 bands of the Ojibwe Nation in the state of Wisconsin. The reservation spans approximately 86,600 acres in the tourist regions of Chequamegon National Forest and Northern Highlands State Forest. It lies within Vilas, Oneida, and Iron Counties, Wisconsin. Though the Lac du Flambeau Band occupied the Lac du Flambeau area since 1745, when Chief Keeshkemun led them to the area, they were not granted this federally-recognized reservation until 1854, pursuant to the Treaty of La Pointe. |
