Note: One of the six Northern Tewa speaking Rio Grande Pueblos; dated to ca. 500 CE with evidence of a large pre-Spanish conquest population in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. The Spanish mission San Francisco de Pojoaque was founded in the early 17th century. It was deserted after the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, but resettled by tribe members in 1706. |
